About CRT
Where did Critical Race Theory come from?
Critical Race Theory itself began in the 1970’s as a legal theory using elements of what eventually became Critical Social Justice in order to criticize the American legal system. However, Critical Race Theory soon spread to other areas of academia and it is now becoming mainstream as it spreads as a part of Critical Social Justice throughout grade schools, middle schools, high schools, and of course, colleges and universities.
What is Critical Race Theory?
CRT claims that the United States laws are systemically oppressive and that America is systemically racist, and that this racism produced an alliance between the elites and the oppressor capitalist class.
CRT holds to the idea that:
Individuals are either an oppressor or victim. You are predetermined by characteristics such as race, gender, and sexual prefernce to fall into either category.
Everything that makes up western society is racist. This includes Christianity, capitalism, nuclear families, law and order, and successful white people.
Racism is not just a belief or hatred held by individuals; rather, it is a system of oppression that has been built into the very structure of the United States of America.
America is systemically racist and the structures of society must be dismantled. It sees America as having been founded on the system of capitalism, which is racist, and therefore must be destroyed in favor of socialism and absolute equity.
CRT is destructive and rejects the fundamental ideas on which the US constitutional republic was founded upon. Applying the racist CRT philosophy to American society would violate a multitude of American civil rights laws by treating people differently according to race.
This is what is being pushed rapidly throughout schools and classrooms in the United States. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to detect.
How to Spot Critical Race Theory:
Critical Race Theory (CRT) is often not labeled as such. To try to determine if CRT is being implemented in your local school or community, look through curriculum teachings and search for buzzwords surrounding racism, systemic oppression, equity, social justice, and other terms related to Critical Race Theory.
If you’re a parent or grandparent, ask to see the full curriculum for the academic school year along with all assignments. Make sure CRT and other woke Marxist teachings are not embedded into the curriculums. Sometimes there is subtle indoctrination taking place within the textbooks with how they’re written containing bias.
If you are not a parent or family member or were denied access to the desired materials, submit a FOIA request to be given access to the debate and decision making process of your local school board members and the materials that are being taught in public taxpayer funded schools. If requested, the government is required to hand over the records via “Open records laws’ and “Sunshine laws.”
The 1619 Project:
One avenue which the Marxists pushing Critical Race Theory hope to reimagine society is through curriculums in schools. The New York Times 1619 Project is the most famous example of social justice activism disguised as educational curriculum. The project tells explicit falsehoods about the history of the United States and its founding to push a political agenda. Terrifyingly this project and others just like it are being taught in classrooms in nearly every state across the country.
The 1619 Project was developed by far-left BLM activist Nikole Hannah-Jones and it aims to reframe the country's history by placing slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the United States' national narrative. The infamous project has been debunked as having no historical value to it, and FLAG is working tirelessly to have it banned from public schools in all 50 states.
The 1619 Project is currently being taught in more than 3,500 classrooms throughout the United States.
Critical Race Theory Talking Points:
Students in America should be taught HOW to think, not WHAT to think. Teach them reading, writing, math, science, and civics – NOT woke ideologies that seek to divide students based on their skin color.
Educational materials that demonize the nuclear family, Christianity, and capitalism go against the core of American values – children should not be exposed to these controversial and divisive teachings.
Teachers should be instilling patriotism into their students and schools. Kids should gain an appreciation for their country’s history and its founding principles through public education.
Instead of dividing students by their gender, race, and sexual preferences – they should be united in their shared sense of national identity as freedom loving Americans. Content taught in schools should foster patriotism and pride in American history.
CRT distracts from addressing the root causes of poor social, economic and educational outcomes.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. supported a focus on developing students’ critical thinking skills and moral compasses, providing the tools for opportunity and achievement.
