Your voice: Critical race theory repudiates MLK's vision

Dear Editor:

I wish to commend the Daily Times for covering the NAACP’s and BCU’s weekend Zoom event, even though it was not particularly newsworthy, for two reasons.

First, the speakers at the event confirmed that proponents of Critical Race Theory (CRT) seek to teach it in K-12 classrooms, and not — as is sometimes falsely claimed —just in college or even law school classes. The Tennessee Legislature wisely barred this toxic rhetoric from public schools.

Second, the news report illustrates the extent to which CRT repudiates the Rev. Martin Luther King’s vision of color blindness. Imagine if a White man said “If you don’t see that I am a White man, then you don’t see a very important part of me.” This statement would understandably be denounced as racist. The sentiment is similarly racist if uttered by a Black woman…
